Virus 100 (A Tribute to the Dead Kennedys)

I don’t usually dig tribute albums. A few have crossed my taste but still I’m a lover of originals. But sometimes when you hear something interestingly different about something you have grown accustomed to hearing to it gets better. The track that got my attention on this release was NoMeansNo’s version of Forward to Death. An a capella version, pretty good one and I can’t seem to get over the originality and coolness everytime I listen to this song. This is Alternative Tentacles’ 100th album, thus the title. Other memorable moments here are DK versions of The Didjits, Napalm Death, Sepultura, L7 and another favorite Les Thugs’ Moon Over Marin. Only a few DK songs are this melodic and they did justice in covering this one. Another interesting track here is the California Uber Alles’ version of Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. Anyways, enjoy!

  1. This is an outstanding post. I heard this when it first came out and really dug it but never picked it. This is one of the best cover albums out there, right up with some of the Discharge one’s I’ve heard. I like when bands cover other bands as long as they take the song and make it their own. In other words, they don’t try to play the song to sound just like the original. This one totally accomplishes that. Thanx for this post.

Killer post man. Used to have this one but lost it over the many years and moves. I was just thinking of it the other day, trippy to find it!
