The Damned – Phantasmagoria

This was the first album by the Damned  without original member Captain Sensible doing the bass chores. I remember it vaguely, 2 songs from this release used to be regulars at the legendary WXB102 radio during the 80’s. The station that dared to be different. Those were Grimly Fiendish and Edward the Bear, (sung by Roman Jugg) and it was through these 2 that I came to know the Damned. Yup, It took me years before I got a hold of the classic Damned, Damned, Damned album and listen to the original music of this band. Nevertheless this is still not a bad album for me, being at one point in time (even still at present, anyways) an avid follower of new wave music. This album seems to lean much on the goth side and is very suitable with Vanian’s deep voice. Quite lengthy tracks here. Other notables are Shadow of Love, Is it a dream and the powerful instrumental Trojans.
